Book Reviews (Waiting on Wednesday #49)

Waiting on Wednesday “Waiting On” Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Jill @ Breaking the Spine It’s a chance to showcase upcoming releases we are interesting in or drooling over. Vitro Vitro by Jessica Khoury Publisher: Penguin Publication date: January 14, 2014 Genre:Science-fiction Pre-order: Amazon Jessica Khoury, YA’s Michael Crichton, delivers a death-defying adventure in a captivating tropical setting alongside a frightening message about dabbling with creation. On a remote island in the Pacific, Corpus scientists have taken test tube embryos and given them life. These beings—the Vitros—have knowledge and abilities most humans can only dream of. But they also have one enormous flaw. Sophie Crue is determined to visit Skin Island and find her mother, a scientist who left Sophie behind years ago. She enlists hunky charter pilot Jim Julien to take her there. But once on the island, Sophie and Jim encounter more than they bargained for, including a charming, brilliant Vitro named Nicholas and an innocent, newly awoken one named Lux–Sophie’s twin. In a race for their lives, Sophie and Jim are about to discover what happens when science stretches too far beyond its reach. Vitro sounds like it will be filled with action, suspense and a little science-fiction creepiness. I am guessing that in January/February when it’s -22 degrees, the island setting will be nice. What Nora Knew by Linda Yellin Publisher: Simon & Schuster Publication date:Jamuary 21, 2014 Genre: contemporary romance Pre-order: Amazon Self-professed cynic Molly Hallberg navigates the tricky waters of New York romance with help from the advice found in Nora Ephron’s romantic comedies. Molly is a thirty-nine-year-old divorced writer living in New York City who wants her own column, a Wikipedia entry, and to never end up in her family’s Long Island upholstery business. For the past four years Molly’s been on staff at Eye Spy, covering all the wacky assignments. She’s snuck vibrators through security scanners, speed-dated undercover, danced with Rockettes, and posed nude for a Soho art studio. Fearless in everything except love, Molly is now dating a forty-four-year-old chiropractor. He’s comfortable, but safe. When Molly is assigned to write a piece about New York City romance “in the style of Nora Ephron,” she flunks out big time. She can’t recognize romance. And in her own life, she can’t recognize the one man who can go one-on-one with her, the one man who gets her. Mainly because he’s a well-known player. But with pointers from Nora Ephron’s comedies, Molly learns to open her heart, suppress her cynicism, and find her very own fairytale ending. What Nora Knew has me curious, I love Nora Ephron’s movies with hits like, Sleepless in Seattle, When Harry Met Sally, Julie & Julia so I am sure this will be filled with humor, a little self-discovery and some romance..perfect for a cold snowy afternoon escape!
